In honor of World Read Aloud Day, many gathered at School #33 to celebrate this "ode to reading."

The global celebration is recognized on the first Wednesday of March to call attention to childhood and adult illiteracy. Students, police officers, firefighters, Rochester athletes and more attended the celebration.

"We're doing all we can here to send the message out to our parents; most importantly our children in terms of how important it is to read," Dr. Larry Ellison said.

Nearly 20 percent of high school graduates in the U.S. cannot read. Worldwide, more than 793 million people are unable to read.
