Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy is calling on Wegmans and the Teamsters Union to return to the bargaining table.
Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy is calling on Wegmans and the Teamsters Union to return to the bargaining table.

Duffy sent letters to both parties asking them to meet. He is getting involved because the federal mediators are not available due to the government shutdown. Wegmans and the Teamsters have agreed to resume negotiations on October 11th. The two parties have been in a bitter contract dispute. It all came to a head when the Teamsters overwhelmingly rejected Wegman's last, best and final offer. That authorized a strike. The main sticking points in the dispute have been wages and pension benefits.

Duffy or his appointee will remain available to Wegmans and the Teamsters should their assistance become necessary during the negotiations. In his letter, Duffy asked that a labor agreement be finalized by October 15th.
