Fitness expert Jodi Stern of Pilates Plus offered some tips for older adults looking to establish a workout routine Tuesday on News 8 at Sunrise.

Stern said anyone who is older, such as retirees of the Baby Boomer generation, should consult with their doctor before starting any new workouts routine.

Once you have the green light to workout, Stern recommended starting slowly and building up strength and stamina over time.  She said it's important to continue the workouts over a three week period to help them become a part of your normal routine.

There are multiple benefits, including improved mobility and strength.  Taking part in some workouts activities can also be a social outlet.
