FORECAST: AN OCTOBER FEEL TODAY

Clouds will control the sky to start today, but the sun will return during the afternoon, as drier punches in with high pressure. Highs will only reach the low to mid 60s with a cool breeze!

SEPTEMBER PRECIPITATION:  0.52"

THURSDAY SUNRISE:  6:40 AM

THURSDAY SUNSET:  7:38 PM

The strong backdoor cold front that slid through late Thursday night is ushering in the coolest air mass we've felt since early June on a northerly wind.  Highs today will only make it into the low to mid 60s with increasing sun expected to evolve this afternoon.

Your Thursday night will be mainly clear with little, or no wind, and a chilly air mass in place.  This will set the stage for near record cold, and maybe even a little frost in the normally colder spots south of the Thruway where mid to upper 30s will likely be felt late tonight and early Friday!  So if you have tender plants outside and you live south of the Thruway you may want to cover/bring the plants in before going to bed this evening.  Lows tonight for most will range from 40 to 45, including the Greater Rochester area, but 50s up near the big lake due to the low 70 something water temperature.  The record low for Friday morning in Rochester is 40° set back in 2000.  After the cold start, lots of sun and a little moderating breeze will develop and aid in a nice recovery, as we will likely warm into the low 70s come the late afternoon hours Friday.  Highs Saturday afternoon should be up near 80 with a gusty, warming west-southwest breeze, and a scattering of afternoon showers and storms expected to develop ahead of another cold front.  The cold front will move through late Saturday night/early Sunday and produce a few showers and drizzle to begin Sunday, but hopeful for some drying and maybe some rays of sun to end Sunday.  Highs to end the weekend will be near 70, but much of Sunday should be in the 60s with a gusty, cool breeze, which will make for not the greatest weather for the Bills Patriots game at the Ralph, but it could be much worse.  Stay tuned for updates regarding the weekend and the weather for the Bills home opener!
