The Gateways Music Festival returns to Rochester with performances August 14-18.
The Gateways Music Festival returns to Rochester with performances August 14-18.

Dr. Paul Burgett, a member of the Festival's Board of Directors, discussed the event Tuesday on News 8 at Noon.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the festival's founding.  All of the festival events are free and open to the public.  They will take place in various churches, schools, Rochester City Hall and Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre.

Nearly 90 classical musicians of African descent from throughout the United States will participate.  "What this is really about is the performance and the appreciation of very good music," said Burgett.  "We want to encourage younger musicians in this community that there is a place for you in classical music."

Among the featured performances will be the Gateways Orchestra Concert at Kodak Hall on Sunday at 4 p.m.
