Thousands of people in the Rochester area will have the help they need to pay their heating bills. Senator Chuck Schumer announced today that $165 million dollars has been secured in the budget for New York State. Schumer said that the funding will particularly help senior citizens who live on fixed incomes and need help with the rising energy costs. Schumer also stated that upstate New York receives the majority of the HEAP funding due to the colder temperatures and high population.
