Fitness expert Jodi Stern of Pilates Plus discussed the importance of counter training Tuesday morning on News 8 at Sunrise.

Stern said when training for longer distance runs, such as next week's New York City Marathon, it's important to counter train to build strength and endurance.  Biking or swimming are examples of counter training activities that can create training benefits.

Stern said strengthening the back side of the body and the smaller muscles is just as important as prepping the main muscles for long distance runs.  She also said it's important to stretch after a workout to help prevent injuries.
