The young lady who nominated this News 8 Golden Apple Award winner was admittedly not a big fan of going to Hilton High School, that is until she met Joelle Cain. Here's our teacher surprise.
Brianna Bell tells us Special Education Teacher Joelle Cain is a beautiful, wonderful and fair woman. "Because she would like put up with my attitude and she always has a smile on her face and she's just wonderful to see every morning."
Mrs. Cain's patient and caring attitude changed Brianna's attitude about coming to school and her grades have gone up. She says the attention she received from Joelle makes her feel special.
When we walked into Mrs. Cain's classroom she says she was shocked and happy to be surprised with a golden Apple Award.
Joelle has been a teacher 16 years. Principal Brian Bartalo says she's especially good at building relationships with her students. "She works really hard to make connections with the kids and make them see that they have to set goals and work hard. and if they do those things and they come to school every day that they can find success. And I think that's what she' trying to do with students like Brianna."
Joelle says "I guess I just get to know the kids and reach out to see what works to the kids. It really makes me feel rewarded that one of my kids would do this for me."
Joelle Cain is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read Brianna's letter nominating Mrs. Cain by looking below.
Dear News 8,
Mrs. Cain is the most kindest teacher and she is always there to make sure that bullying is not going on. She helps all of us kids and she looks at us kids as her kids. I have had her for 2 years.
She helps many kids at a time, we look at her as our mom. I love how when someone is lost she is always asking to help. She is so kind and i am so lucky to have her.
She is beautiful and she deserves this because she is a wonderful and fair teacher. She has made me do better in high school, and if it wasn't from her I wouldn't be where I would be now.
I love you Mrs. Cain and thank you for watching out for us kids, teachers, and everyone around you. I hope you get this award.
Brianna Bell, Hilton High School
