Lancers Get First Win

Boughton scores twice for Rochester

The Rochester Lancers (1-3) gave first year head coach Josh Rife his first win as coach as they defeated the visiting Pennsylvania Roar (0-5) by a score of 11-2. The players gave Rife the game ball following the game. For the Lancers, Gary Boughton led the team offensively with a pair of goals, while 2012-13 MISL Offensive Player of the YearMauricio Salles made his season debut for the Lancers and chipped in an assist. GoalkeeperPatrick Hannigan  made 6 saves for the win in goal for the Lancers and he had an assist, as well.

The Lancers tallied the lone goal of the first quarter when Hannigan sent a long ball toPedrinho and he who watched  his 3-point attempt deflect off a Roar defender and past Peter Pappas for a 3-0 Lancers lead.

The Roar would get on the board a minute into the second quarter when Corey Maret cut through the Lancers defense and slotted one past Hannigan to make it 3-2 Lancers at the half.

The Lancers came out of the locker room charged up as Troy Cole created a turnover that Boughton would put away just 32 seconds into the second half, upping the Lancer lead to 5-2. A little over a minute later, Salles notched his first point of the season when he set up boyhood friend Juninho Da Silva’s first goal as a Lancer to extend the Lancer’s lead to 7-2. With the Lancers down a player, Boughton created a turnover and went end to end for his second goal of the quarter that would give the Lancers a 9-2 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

With Angel Rivillo on as the sixth attacker for the Roar, Joey Tavernese would take a pass from Juninho and score to make the final score 11-2 for the home side.

The Lancers will return to action on Friday December 13th when they travel to the Baltimore Arena to face the defending MISL champion Baltimore Blast at 7:35 pm. The Lancers will return home to play the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday, December 14th when they host the St. Louis Ambush at 7 pm.
