Hundreds of local students learned about natural disasters through LEGO's Sunday afternoon during the first annual LEGO Leauge Championship at the University of Rochester.

The goal was to teach kids about how natural events meet the places people work and live. Students were excited to build their own robotics and work as a team.

"It's so much more than just LEGO. What is going on is fun and competitive but these kids did presentations and their own research on natural disasters," LEGO League Coordinator Damian Garcia said.

"We have to do missions and complete them on the board. We did presentations on common core," participant Angelina Galante said.

More than 100 teams from the Finger Lakes Region competed in the tournament.
