Mt. Hope Cemetery Celebrate 175 Years

Rochester's oldest cemetery celebrates their 175th anniversary.
On a rainy day like Saturday, it seems only fitting to take a stroll through a cemetery-- at least that is what visitors to the Mount Hope Cemetery did.

Mayor Thomas S. Richards and Rep. Louise Slaughter joined staff members and patrons in the celebration of the cemetery's 175th anniversary.

The Historic cemetery is the oldest municipal Victorian cemetery in the nation and each year, thousands of people flock to the site to view the natural beauty that makes the cemetery unique.

Mount Hope was originally dedicated on October 3, 1838 and spans nearly 200 acres.
