New Trail For High Falls

City plans to add a new trail in the High Falls area.

City To Develop New High Falls Trail

The City of Rochester says it plans to light up High Falls and encourage more walking and biking in the area.
It spent $200,000 dollars to buy an old CSX rail bed next to the falls.
That rail bed will become a new trail called the High Falls/Genesee Brewery Line.
Design work still needs to happen but the city plans to use $275,000 dollars in state funding and match that amount to complete the project.
“We want people down here all day long, want people to appreciate this and we want them to remember the history,” said Mayor Tom Richards, (D) Rochester.
City leaders and the neighborhood association say it's money well spent.
"here is what you have now, this investment is worth it, the investment in the neighborhoods is truly worth it," said George Moses, North East Area Development Association.
The city will use about $50,000 dollars to light up the falls.
Construction on the new trail is not expected until at least next spring.
