New York Minute: December 27th

A look at the top stories statewide.
Flames and black smoke billowed through the roof of a Dollar Store in Yonkers on Thursday. Firefighters worked fast to try to keep the fire from spreading the neighboring buildings. Officials said the fire was contained to one building. Nearby apartments were evacuated just in case. There are no reports of any injuries.

Nassau County Police and ambulance workers helped deliver a special gift on Christmas Eve- a baby girl. Police say Karen Hollander, 40, had gone into labor in a bank parking lot in Great Neck on Christmas Eve when she called 911. As emergency personnel were taking Hollander to the hospital, that baby just would not wait. So the EMTs helped deliver the baby on the way there. Baby Alexandria is the first daughter for Karen Hollander and her husband Roger, who have four sons. Karen was out shopping for a car seat for her new daughter when she went into labor.
