NYS Thruway Closed Between Buffalo and Pennsylvania

The state has closed a major chunk of the Thruway in advance of the coming winter storm and frigid temperatures.

At 3 p.m. Monday, the Thruway will be closed to commercial traffic between exit 55 (Lackawanna/Springfield/Orchard Park) and exit 61 (Shortman Road, Ripley). Beginning at 8 p.m., vehicles traveling west toward Buffalo will be detoured to exit 50 (I-290). Vehicles traveling east from Pennsylvania should exit at I-86 and use I-390. The storm is expected to dump 36 inches of snow with high wind gusts and below-zero wind chills.
