Victim In Fatal I-490 Crash Identified

It happened on 490 West near Route 31-F around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
One person is dead and two others injured after a car crash in Pittsford.

Darren Manzella, 36, was a retired U.S. Army Sergeant who served in Iraq. The victim once made national headlines for helping to repeal the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. He spoke out against the policy that prevented gays from disclosing their sexuality. The policy was repealed in 2011.

Deputies say Manzella was driving a car last night that side-swiped another vehicle on I-490, near Route 31F. Manzella got out of his car and tried to push it to the side of the road. He was rear-ended by a third vehicle and killed instantly. Friends tell us Manzella just got married about a month ago.
