There were award recipients in eight categories, including the Humanitarian Hero Youth Award. That was given to Anthony Palermo for helping save his grandfather. Red Cross Regional CEO Nancy Blaschak said the goal of the event was the highlight the heroes and inspire others to give of themselves.
"The Red Cross is filled with volunteers that do extraordinary work, normal people like you and me that do great stuff day in and day out, and we thought this was a great opportunity to connect with the mission of the Red Cross and let the community know that we have heroes among us that we rarely hear about," she said.
Boston bombing survivors Pete and Gina DiMartino gave the keynote address for the breakfast.
