Red Jacket Wins Title In OT

Fogarty scores championship winning TD
Kory Fogarty scored the go-ahead TD on the first play of overtime and Sean Sheets sealed the win with an interception three plays later as (1)Red Jacket beat (3)Cal-Mum 36-28 in the Class DD Sectional Championship at Sahlen's Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Fogarty led the Indians with 137 yards rushing and scored twice. Sheets added 117 yards and a touchdown. Lee Perry completed six passes for 158 yards and a touchdown.

Kurtis Haut had another monster game in a losing effort for Cal-Mum. He rushed for 238 yards and threw for 133 more. He scored twice on the ground.

Cal-Mum led 14-6 at the half, but Red Jacket tied on their first play of the third quarter. Perry found Tyler Gardner for a 90-yard score, then hit Ryan Sadler for the two point conversion. Sheets 15-yard TD run and another two point conversion put RJ on top at 22-14.

The Raiders answered with a four-play, 55 yard drive that ended when Haut juked his way in for a 26 yard TD run on the first play of the fourth quarter. Red Jacket stopped the two point try and preserved their lead at 22-20.

Both offenses stayed hot as Red Jacket marched 67 yards in seven plays and Fogarty plunged in from the one to make it 28-20. The two-point pass fell incomplete.

Cal-Mum's answer was a 69 yard drive that lasted less than four minutes. Joe Cappotelli got the TD and Haut passed to Will Vanauken for two and the tie at 28. It was the second big catch for Vanauken on the drive. He converted 3rd and 11 with a 40-yarders just two snaps after dropping what might have been an easy touchdown. Vanauken also scored Cal-Mum's first TD.

After moving the ball at will, both offenses were shut down for the final five minutes. Red Jacket got the ball first in overtime and sent Fogarty off tackle right. He pinballed his way in for the go-ahead score.

Cal-Mum's OT drive never got going. A penalty on second down left the Raiders in 2nd and 20. On third down, Sheets finished the Raiders off.

Red Jacket will play next weekend in the Class D State Play-In game against Clyde-Savannah. The Eagles come from behind to beat Alexander 30-24 on Sunday.
