For nine months, the TV crew from A&E's "The First 48" followed RPD's Major Crimes Unit as they searched for answers in 37-year-old William Klick's murder.

There is not a day that goes by that James Klick does not think about his son.

"Him and his brother brought home skunks, snakes and snapping turtles," James said of his sons.

On October 7, 2012 his family's life was changed forever.

"William Klick ws shot to death on Copley Street, which is on the west side of the city toward the airport," Investigator Terry Dearcop said.

"He was at his grandmother's house at 6 p.m. and was going to get gas at the gas station to mow the lawn and the next thing we know, he was down in the city," James said.

William lived in Honeoye Falls. He was found in the city shot four times. Investigators believe he went into the city to help his ex-girlfriend, 35-year-old Kathryn Makoroff.

"The detective showed up here Sunday morning at 8 a.m.," James said. "Could you imagine calling your wife or your husband when she's in the middle of vacation telling her that? She couldn't function for two weeks afterward."

Months later Makoroff and her friend, Jeffrey Blunt, 30, were arrested for William's murder. Both suspects are awaiting trial. Although they know it will not bring back their son, William's family hopes they will get more answers.

"Initially two investigators came in on the case and I joined the second day of the homicide," Dearcop said.

"Just remember when you pull that trigger or pull out that gun that that's it. You can't take it back. The world changes. It is never going to go back to the way it was," James said. "We will be at the cemetery Christmas Eve instead of sitting here probably."

For now, James will not watch the new episode of "The First 48." He knows there will be some parts of the special that are too hard to watch. The episode airs at 9 p.m. Thursday on A&E.
