If you are thinking of buying Google glasses, your purchase could be boosting the local economy.

Rochester Optical is one of just a few optical companies in the U.S. that is making prescription Google glasses. The company is already taking orders for prescription Google glass lenses. They will be ready to ship out in about a month.  Here is how it works- Google glass is like Bluetooth that you strap to your head. It is essentially an extension of your smartphone. It allows you to see and do everything that a laptop would in front of you out of the top corner of a headset that you wear.

Here is where Rochester Optical comes in- the local company is making the prescription lens that attaches to Google glass, allowing folks who need to wear prescription eye-wear to also be able to wear Google glass at the same time.

"For people like me who have been wearing glasses for the past 30-40 years, I wear this on on I wouldn't be able to see because I need corrective lenses. That's where Rochester Optical comes in. We have designed a lens carrier and also the special lens to compensate what is really needed for Google glasses," Rochester Optical CEO Patrick Ho said.

Rochester Optical is only selling the lenses and the lens carriers. The lenses start at $99 while the carriers begin at $129. The glasses can only be purchased from Google and run about $1,600.
