Salvation Army Needs Extra Push To Meet Goal

The Salvation Army is asking for your help to reach their goal this holiday season.
The Salvation Army is asking for your help to reach their goal this holiday season.

Reps say their Red Kettle Campaign is falling short of its goal this year. It hopes to raise about $650,000 this season. But new numbers show they have only raised a little more than $250,000. That is nearly $75,000 less than last year at this time. Reps say the lack of volunteers and the five less shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas have really hurt the campaign.

"I think the holidays have snuck up very quickly on people and caught people by surprise. I was talking to people even today. Some of us haven't even gotten are shopping done for anyone..and there's a little more than two weeks left. Things have just happened in an extraodinary way," Major Douglas Hart said.

Hart says he has not seen a shortage like this in the 30 years he has worked the campaign. If you would like to donate, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769) or donate online.
