Six Rochester school students were taken to Strong Hospital after a crash near the corner of Alexander Street and Broadway Street.

Several classmates watched their six friends get hit by an SUV. It happened around 8:45 a.m.

"It was a very traumatizing thing that happened. Our students took care of each other. There were a few that were on the scene. A group of about 20 students that were on their way in," principal Idonia Owens said.

Police say the SUV swerved off the road, then through a fence and struck them.

"They helped some of the students get back into the building. They helped by coming in to let us know what had occurred down at the corner and they helped by counseling each other," Owens said.

Six teachers rode in the ambulances with the injured teens. The students and driver were all taken to Strong. Three students have significant but non-life threatening injuries. Extra counselors were available to talk to anyone who witnessed the crash.

"Our student's have written to their friends who were injured. We are a very small, family-like community. So everyone knows each other very well. So they have written letters" she said.

Students at School Without Walls hope to see their classmates back in school on Monday. A celebration will be waiting for them. So far no charges have been filed against the driver. Police are looking at video from the intersection.
