The Step It Up to Cure Pancreatic Cancer 5K Walk is set for Saturday, November 16 at the R.I.T. Gordon Field House.

Pancreatic Cancer Assocation of Western New York Board Vice Chair Mary Ellen Smith and Executive Board Member Mary Pettinaro discussed the event Monday on News 8 at Noon.

Saturday's walk is a family fun event with activities and entertainment for all ages.  Doors will open at 12 p.m. with the walk set for 1:30.

Proceeds will support local research at the Wilmot Cancer Center.  Research is critical when it comes to pancreatic cancer because there is currently no screening process for the disease, which is the 4th leading cause of cancer deaths nationally, and 3rd leading cause of cancer deaths in Monroe County.

The membership of the all volunteer Pancreatic Cancer Association of WNY have all been touched by the disease.

Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers.

It's easy to get involved and help support local research.  You can register at the door, or pre-register online, click here.
