Dr. Mirabelli said it's important for any athlete after an injury to allow time for it to heal properly.  Coming back too early from an injury can cause additional damage.

The doctor said it's also important for young athletes to tell their parents and coaches how they are feeling.  Parents and coaches need to be proactive when dealing with injured athletes, especially head injuries.

The American Academy of Neurology advises "if in doubt, sit it out" and Dr. Mirabelli said that's a good prescription.
