A new Torah was unveiled Monday at the grand opening of the Chabad Jewish Center at the University of Rochester.

The event took place in the school's Rush Rhees Library. There was food, music and dancing. People in the U of R community has the rare opportunity to see how the scribe writes the final letters in the new Torah scroll, the very first ever written for the university. People even had the chance to write their own letter in the Torah. The Torah was then taken to the new Chabad Jewish Student Center across the campus, which will be a home away from home for Jewish students.

"There's nothing more fitting....it's an amazing celebration," Rabbi Asher Yaras said.

The new Chabad house is located at 955 Genesee Street.
