U of R Professors Study Slavery's Legacy

They compared attitudes in Southern areas that had more slaves.
Slavery ended 150 years ago, but it left behind a political legacy, according to University of Rochester researchers.

Maya Sen, Matthew Blackwell and Avidit Archarya studied census data and opinion polls. They found Southern whites in areas that had more slaves had more negative attitudes toward blacks than whites who live in areas that had fewer slaves.
