Victor Sweeps To State Volleyball Title

Blue Devils 3rd state championship in four years
It took until the state championship match, but Victor finally proved they were the best team in New York State.

The Blue Devils won the Division II Final three games to none over Bellmore JFK and took home their third state championship in the last four years Friday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Victor's final match scores were 25-16, 25-19 and 25-19.

Things did not look so clear after pool play. Victor, Bellmore and Burnt Hills each finished with 2-2 records. Victor advanced to the finals primarily because they won the first set of the day 25-16. No other pool play set was decided by more than three points and the Blue Devils ended up with a plus-7 point differential (Burnt Hills was -8, Bellmore was +1).

Bellmore was facing elimination in the final pool set of the day, but beat Burnt Hills 25-22 to force a tie-breaker set. Bellmore then won the tiebreaker 25-15, but had nothing left to challenge Victor in the finals.

Fairport won the state title at Division I, making it a Section Five sweep in boys volleyball this season.
