The 22nd Trade Banquet and Expo is set for November 7 at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Rochester.

Greater Rochester Enterprise Managing Director of International Trade Leah George discussed the event and Rochester's role in the global marketplace Wednesday morning on News 8 at Sunrise.

With 90 percent of global market existing outside the United States, local businesses are leveraging the resources of GRE to grow their businesses abroad.  George said both large and small businesses need help navigating through cultural, political, social and economic forces.  GRE is able to connect businesses to resources to help establish international sales channels, trade finance, and shipping logistics.

Rochester is one of the top 25 major exporting regions per capita.  It accounts for 6.3 percent of all New York merchandise exports.  George said our primary exports include chemicals, computer and electronic products, machinery, food and kindred products, and manufactured commodities.

The Trade Banquet and Expo is an opportunity for local business leaders to connect with international trade experts to help grow their business.  In addition, awards will be presented for the Best International Small Business of the Year (under 500 employees), Best Large International Business of the Year (over 500 employees) and the Best International Service Provider of the Year.

Nominations are still being accepted.  The deadline is October 4.
